Science week coming soon.....

We end Term 4 with our annual Science Week event.

This year we have secured several exciting activities to be delivered by external professionals to enrich the science curriculum.

Acorns will be visited by a menagerie of animals from a private, ever growing collection of interesting pets of Ms Brown and her daughters. A bearded dragon and a giant African millipede are amongst a few creatures that the Acorns will see on Tuesday afternoon.

Also on Tuesday the whole school will take part in a Lego Robotic workshop provided by PrepareRobo who have had great success in providing workshops to thousands of students across the country. Wootton School children will learn how to build and code simple robots using easy to use drag and drop graphical environments.

On Thursday, Oaks and Saplings will try and expand their engineering skills by taking part in a full day’s workshop, building their own ‘vibrating brush monster’ under the wing of STEM ambassadors James Lawton Smith and Sarah Richmond. It will consist of constructing a simple series electrical circuit and attaching it to a brush decorated as a monster! The ‘monsters’ then will be trialled on different surfaces to find out on which one they travel fastest.

Finally, each class will focus on their own science topic this week so let’s be prepared for the abundance of science and plenty of inspirational fun!

On behalf of all the children and staff I would like to thank the STEM ambassadors James Lawton Smith and Sarah Richmond for preparing and running the ‘vibrating brush monster’ workshop and Ms Brown and Bella & Rosa Wheeler for lending us their precious animals.
